SG General Contracting believes that it is important to build houses plumb, level, and square right from the beginning - that means starting houses by building accurate and well-placed footings and foundations. This philosophy is carried all the way through the home build, from framing and roofing to exterior and interior finishes, in order to create the client's dream home.

Where possible, passive solar design is incorporated into the building techniques to ensure that the customer can save energy on heating and cooling, without compromising quality and style, while they enjoy their new home.

Roofing

There are three general kinds of roofing installations: three tab shingles, architectural shingles, and metal roofing. For all three kinds of roof there is a range of color, texture and style. SG General Contracting will work with you during your home build to decide which type of roof is right for your house and your budget.

Asphalt / Fibre Glass - basic 3-tab shingles provide good protection but do not have some of the features of metal or composite roof installations. These shingles are generally guarenteed for 30-40 years. With many brands on the market, be sure to ask if the roofers are certified to install the product you would like to use. Most roofing companies will profide an additional 15-20 year warranty on their installation work.

Metal Roofing - costs more than shingles but will last for 60+ years. These durable installations increase resale value, and help you build a Green home. Metal roofing lowers your carbon footprint and uses more recycled materials. These reflective roofs are also make your home much more energy efficient and lower your cooling costs. Many insurance companies also provide discounts for homes with metal roofs. The downside is that these roofs do not match as many home styles as fibre glass or composite shingles.

Composite - these shingles are made from commonly used roofing materials with additives for color, texture or protective properties such as mold resistance etc. Composite shingles are guaranteed for 80+ years and do not cost significantly more than other roofing installations. However not all roofing companies are certified to install them.
